USAID–IHP, others offer free medical treatments in Ebonyi

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID-IHP) with other health-based intervention partners has offered free medical outreach to indigenes of Enyibirichi Alike community in Ikwo local government area of Ebonyi state.
Those other USAID–IHP partners involved in the programme were Health Workforce Management Activity (HWM), Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMURT) and Ebonyi State Ministry of Health.

The programme was held at the Community Primary School, Obiegu Enyibirichi Alike, Ikwo with over 300 people comprising men, women and children in attendance.

Dr Nneka Kene-Ibeagha of the Integrated Primary Health Care IPHC Advisors for USAID – IHP stated that the activity was organized to support the State Ministry of Health (SMOH), State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SPHCDA), Local Government Areas, other stakeholders and various health organizations to commemorate the Health workers week.

Kene-Ibeagha maintained that the concept was to bring an integrated package of health services closer to the people.

She expressed satisfaction with the turnout.

Apex News Exclusive observed that the community members who were in attendance had communicable and non-communicable diseases which includes, hypertension, upper respiratory tract infections, peptic ulcer disease.

Other diseases were, malaria which were common in the community and among pregnant women and children.

Also other health care services offered were immunisation, antenatal and postnatal care services, nutrition services for mothers and children, gender-based volume services, HIV counselling and testing, among others.

Similarly, Apex News Exclusive gathered that Ebonyi state is yet to domesticate task shifting and sharing in the existing state owned hospitals.

The policy was adopted in 2014 so as to address the shortfall in health services delivery by using skilled workers to train others, essentially in laboratory services.
