Victims of Zogirma windstorm in Kebbi get N50m from Government

Following the devastating windstorm that recently wreaked havoc in Zogirma town of Bunza Local Government Area, Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has donated the sum of N50 million to support 266 affected household.
The Governor made the announcement during a sympathy visit to the community on Thursday, where he addressed residents and expressed deep concern over the incident.
The Governor therefore directed community stakeholders to determine a fair and transparent method for distributing the N50 million donation based on the extent of damage each household suffered.
“I came here to see things for myself, sympathize with the victims, and provide necessary support because it is my responsibility to alleviate the suffferings of the cizenry when the need arises,” Governor Idris further said.
He added that the State Government had already dispatched food and relief items through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), noting that the goods were already distributed to the victims.
During the visit, Governor Idris also announced several developmental commitments by pledging to renovate the palace of the District Head of Zogirma while confirming that the road in the area was currently undergoing reconstruction.
In response to a request by the District Head of Zogirma, the Governor approved the conversion of the community’s secondary school from a day to a boarding academic system.
“I have directed the relevant authorities to revert the school to its former boarding status. The rooftops of the school buildings, which were blown off by the wind, will also be repaired,” he added, while offering prayers for protection against future disasters.
The Executive Chairman of the State Emergency Relief Agency, SEMA, Hon. Bello Yakubu Rilisco, said following the approval of Governor Idris, the agency has delivered 700 bags of assorted grains, comprising rice, maize, sorghum, as well as several cartons of spaghetti, cooking oil and maggi to the victims of the windstorm to cushion the effect of the disaster.
Earlier, the Governor made a brief stop in Bunza town to inspect the Bunza General Hospital wewere he ordered for its immediate renovation and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the healthcare sector.
“Since assuming office as Governor, in order to boost health care delivery I have absorbed over 500 casual health workers as permanent staff, and I have now directed that the 22 casual staff of this hospital also be absorbed as permanent employees,” he revealed.
