The National Youth Congress, NYC, have said they are out to promote peace, unity, and democratic values.
Comrade Francis Finian Offiono, State Chairman of NYC in Cross River State stated this while addressing journalists at the press centre of Nigeria Union of Journalists Calabar on th de-registration of Nigerian Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, by the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, as well as its suspension by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development.
Offiono said they, NYC, will contribute to deepening democratic governance principles, adding thay are partners in development.
“We’re not pressure group for disruption. Going forward, Cross River youths should expect order, not confusion.
“Structure, not rivalry. Programmes, not Propaganda. Inclusion, not exclusion. Legality, not illegitimacy.”
Stressing on youth development, he cautioned that such cannot be achieved through noise or parallel authority.
According to him, development of the youth can be achieved through structure, continuity, legitimacy, and collaboration.
Offiono added that they provide a coordinated platform for youth engagement as well as a bridge between youths and government.
“There is need to promote leadership development, civic responsibility, and economic empowerment”, he stated.
Stressing that youth leadership must be purpose-driven, lawful, and service-oriented, he mentioned that his administration is committed to entrenching institutions, and not personalities.
Offiono further maintained that youth leadership is too important to be driven by speculation, misinformation, or institutional disorder. “As such, this press briefing was a deliberate step to communicate vision, structure, legality, and expectations.
He said, “The Nigerian Youth Congress stands for peace, progress, and responsible engagement. We will continue to communicate openly, engage constructively, and act responsibly in the best interest of Cross River youths..
“We envision a youth space where ideas thrive, institutions are respected, and leadership is accountable.
“Going forward, Cross River youths should expect to see clear, . functional, and inclusive structures, responsible for policy direction, coordination, and engagement with government institutions.
They cautioned youths in the state to refrain from attending any events, including the one NYCN have scheduled for Bekwara LGA, saying their existent is henceforth unauthorized and illegal.
