The Taraba Youth Frontier has accused the Taraba State Commissioner of Finance, Sarah Enock Adi for the woes of civil servants in connection with a recent biometric screening under her office resulting into the removal of some workers from the payroll.
The payroll crisis soured into a full-blown dispute with the Government as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have called an indefinite strike from Tuesday August 12th, 2025.
This followed outrage over alleged unjust removal of over 7,000 civil servants from the payroll of the state many of whom were denied July salaries, with some receiving partial payments.
In a statement on Thursday in Jalingo, the Youth Frontier called for the immediate removal of the commissioner, accusing her of mismanaging the financial system of the state.
Chairman of Frontier, Usman Magaji, said the flawed verification process not only violated the rights of long-serving employees but also plunged thousands of families into financial hardships.
“Taraba workers are being punished for the failure and incompetence of the Commissioner of Finance, we demand an independent audit of the entire biometric exercise, full reinstatements of workers and payment to all affected workers, as well as explanations on how public funds and loans have been managed in the state,” Magaji demanded.
He said although the state government has acknowledged delays in payment of May salaries and established a committee to investigate the complaints, both the Labour Unions and Youth Frontier argued that the damage has already been done leading to low morale among Civil Servants in Taraba State.
The NLC and TUC which are set to commence the indefinite strike on Tuesday August 12th, 2025 insist that the strike will continue until the State Government addresses their demands, which include immediate payments of all outstanding salaries and reinstatements of all workers that are illegally removed from the payroll of the State Government.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Biometric Committee, Haruna Abubakar Abdulkadir said all conflicts have been resolved following a meeting on Friday at the State Ministry of Finance between the State Head of Service Dr. Ahmed Kara, Accountant General of the State Mr. Gaius Danjuma, State NLC Chairman, Peter Jediel, State Director SSS and members of the Committee while the State Account General refuted the insinuation of any rift between his office, Head of Service and NLC saying that all the grey areas have been resolved and civil servants have been addressed.
