2027: Major PDP faction in Kebbi declares support for Governor Idris
The political landscape in Kebbi State has received a major boost for the re-election bid of Comrade Governor Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, following a formal declaration of support by the strongest faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state.
Hundreds of PDP stakeholders, among them, including the followers of the 2015 governorship candidate General Bello Sarkin Yaki, a former Minister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ishaya Bamaiyi (rtd) and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alhaji Buhari Bala, were at the Birnin Kebbi residence of General Ishaya Bamaiyi, at the weekend for the declaration of the support.
Speaking at the meeting, General Bamaiyi said that despite the current disarray within the PDP at the national level, progressive-minded politicians can not afford to remain inactive.
He noted that the visible transformation of the state capital and Governor Idris’s demonstrated capacity and commitment to critical infrastructural development, particularly in the state capital, informed their decision to support his continuity in 2027.
“For the 2027 elections, we are now fully committed to the victory of Governor Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu,” General Bamaiyi stated, while adding that they will remain within the PDP in view of the dynamic nature of democracy.
Also speaking, Alhaji Buhari Bala corroborated the position, saying that with their pedigree in Nigeria’s political development, they cannot afford to “sidon-look” in the face of patriotic and selfless leadership being exhibited by the Governor.

An elated Governor Nasir Idris expressed gratitude to the PDP stakeholders and their teeming followers for the confidence reposed in his administration and leadership qualities.
This development comes on the heels of the defection last month of thousands of members of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, from the seven local government areas of Kebbi South, including the party’s House of Representatives candidate for Yauri/Shanga/Ngaski Federal Constituency, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
With sustained support from the public, NGOs, organized labour, farming communities, women, youths, and other prominent defectors, the coast is now clearer for the victory of Comrade Governor Nasir Idris in the 2027 general elections.
