The People’s Democratic Party in Kebbi State is divided over endorsing Governor Nasir Idris for a second term in 2027, with prominent stakeholders insisting on supporting Kauran Gwandu.
A group of PDP elders led by former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ishaya Bamaiyi had earlier announced support for Idris after a stakeholders meeting in Birnin Kebbi, citing infrastructural development, road, establishment of new and rehabilitation reconstruction, hospitals, schools, and empowerment programmes.
However, State PDP Chairman Alhaji Usman Bello Suru rejected the endorsement within 24 hours, saying the party has already chosen candidates for all positions.
Adding to the divide, PDP’s 2023 governorship candidate, Maj-Gen. Bello Sarkin Yaki (rtd) also declared support for Idris, stating there is “no alternative” with comparable leadership and development records. He urged voters to reject “selfish and desperate politicians.”
He cited the unique face lift of the state capital, reconstruction of Koko-Zuru abandoned federal road, construction of township and intercity roads, establishment of new and rehabilitation of several hospitals and educational institutions as well as welfarism and result oriented economic empowerment programmes.
The endorsement push came during a visit by the Governor’s Media Team on a nationwide advocacy tour.
Receiving the Kebbi state Governor’s Media team on a courtesy visit, General Sarkin Yaki said: “I could not see any individual with a clean bill of health, track record of undisputable leadership qualities, integrity, generousity, sincerity of purpose and demonstrated commitment that can be compared with Kauran Gwandu “let me therefore advise the few paperweight politicians that are shamelessly criticising the continuity for selfish political interest to give off and accept the fact that there is no alternative to Governor Idris, before they face painful regret and disgrace.”

Therefore, patriotic indigenes of Kebbi State who are truly interested in development should support his continuity “
General Sarkin Yaki urged the people of Kebbi State to reject “selfish, unproductive and desperate politicians ” and instead appreciate Governor Idris by giving him another mandate to consolidate on his visible achievements.
The Governor’s Media Team, led by the Commissioner of Information Yakubu Ahmed Bk, is currently on a nationwide advocacy tour to engage stakeholders and major media organisations on the developmental strides of the Comrade Govenor.
General Sarkin Yaki therefore called on all Kebbi citizens ” regardless of party affiliation, to rally behind Comrade Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu to ensure continuity of purposeful, impactful and inclusive governance beyond 2027 “
