The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Bishop Prof. Stephen Adegbite, has challenged staff of the Commission to embrace continuous learning, diligence, and personal development as pathways to improved productivity and better service delivery.

He stated that “the biggest room in life is the room of improvement.”

Bishop Adegbite made this assertion during a capacity-building workshop for staff of the Commission, facilitated by a team from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) on Productivity Measurement and Improvement Scheme in the Public Sector. The training held at the Conference Hall of the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja on 11th August, 2026.

The workshop, themed “Moving from Common Knowledge to Common Practice,” was designed to equip staff with practical knowledge and approaches to improving productivity, efficiency, and overall performance in the public service.

Speaking to participants, the Executive Secretary emphasized that productivity begins with an individual’s attitude to work. He urged staff to approach their responsibilities with seriousness and commitment, stressing that genuine dedication should not depend on whether a superior is present.

He admonished staff to shun “eye service” and always do what is expected of them, even when no one is watching.
“You must be diligent in your duty. Do not wait for your superior to be around before you do your work. Your commitment should come from within, because every responsibility entrusted to you matters,”he said.

Bishop Adegbite reminded staff that the effectiveness of the Commission is built on the collective contributions of every member. He therefore encouraged them to take ownership of their responsibilities and consistently strive to give their best.

He further charged staff to provide quality service in line with the Commission’s slogan, “Service and Satisfaction,”noting that professionalism, integrity, and excellence must remain at the heart of their daily activities. According to him, adequate preparation is essential for effective performance, as “adequate preparation will lead to high productivity.”

The NCPC boss urged participants to maximize the training, describing it as an opportunity to acquire practical knowledge that can positively influence their work. He cautioned against allowing the lessons to remain at the level of theory, and charged staff to move from simply knowing what should be done to actually doing it.
“Let what you have learnt here become part of your everyday practice. We must move from common knowledge to common practice,” he said.

Bishop Adegbite expressed appreciation to the team from NSIWC for sharing their expertise with staff, noting that continuous capacity development is essential to building a competent, efficient, and productive workforce.

He maintained that improvement is a continuous journey, encouraging staff to regularly assess their performance, identify areas for growth, and make deliberate efforts to improve.

The workshop provided staff the opportunity to reflect on their responsibilities, understand productivity measurement, and explore practical ways of improving efficiency and service delivery.

At the heart of the Executive Secretary’s message was a simple but powerful reminder: every staff member has room to improve, and every improvement, no matter how small, contributes to the growth and success of the Commission.

The training was therefore not just about acquiring knowledge, but about turning knowledge into action, making diligence a habit, and building a workplace where excellence becomes a shared responsibility. It also emphasized goal setting and goal getting as critical to the success of pilgrimage activities.

The 4-man team from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission was led by the Director, Productivity, Prices and Incomes Department, Mr. Babatunde Oresanya.
