Senator Uche Ekwunife has been appointed the South-East Zonal Director of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for re-election in the 2027 presidential election.

Ekwunife, a former senator from Anambra State, will coordinate the APC’s presidential campaign activities across the five South-Eastern states as the party begins preparations for the election.

Her appointment places her in a strategic position within the APC’s campaign structure in a region expected to attract significant political attention ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.

The composition of the Presidential Campaign Council was announced on Saturday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy and Coordinating Director for Media and Strategic Communication of the council.

President Tinubu will serve as chairman of the council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, were named vice chairmen.

Former Zamfara State Governor and Senator representing Zamfara West, Abdulaziz Yari, was appointed Director-General, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma will serve as secretary.

Other members of the campaign leadership include APC National Secretary Ajibola Bashiru and Hadiza Bala-Usman, who were named deputy and assistant secretaries respectively.

The council also has an advisory body comprising former APC National Chairman Bisi Akande, veteran journalist and politician Segun Osoba, former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Florence Ita-Giwa.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni were appointed deputy director-generals for the southern and northern parts of the country.

Former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole will oversee mobilisation, while President Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, will supervise administration.

James Faleke, who played a major role in the APC’s 2022/2023 presidential campaign, was again appointed deputy director-general in charge of election planning, coordination and monitoring.

He will work with the various zonal directors, including Ekwunife in the South-East.

Other zonal directors are Senator Olushola Adeyeye for the South-West, Ngozi Olejeme for the South-South, Muntaqha Rabe for the North-West, Ahmed Muhammed Ketso for the North-Central and Senator Sani Danladi for the North-East.

Onanuga said President Tinubu had charged members of the campaign council to work diligently towards securing victory for the APC in the 2027 presidential election.

He added that the President urged campaign leaders to engage other party members who were not formally listed in the council but could contribute to the campaign.

According to Onanuga, Tinubu maintained that his administration had delivered on its campaign promises and placed the country on the path of economic recovery and progress.

The President also urged members of the campaign council to highlight the achievements of his administration as the country moves towards the campaign season.

“As we march into the campaign season, we have many achievements to trumpet—let us confidently showcase our record and inspire hope in every corner of our nation,” Tinubu was quoted as saying.

He further called on the campaign team to work towards defeating what he described as forces seeking to take Nigeria backwards.
