NEMA praises Governor Idris as frontline leader in disaster response
The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Hajiya Zubaida Umar, has identified the Governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, as one of the governors at the forefront of proactive and decisive responses to natural disasters.
Speaking when she received the Kebbi State Governor’s Media Team on an advocacy visit to her office in Abuja, Hajiya Zubaida said NEMA has observed Governor Idris’s consistent commitment to protecting lives and livelihoods whenever disaster strikes in the state.
“In the course of discharging our mandate, we have carried along all relevant stakeholders towards humanitarian services, disaster control, support services, rehabilitation, and resettlement of victims of different calamities,” the DG said.
“We have been enjoying complementary support and cooperation from state governors, but Governor Idris’s response has always been exceptional. His proactive approach and decisive actions to disaster management and control stand out.”
She noted that the Governor responds promptly whenever alerted to flood or fire incidents, with precautionary measures, control, protection, and the provision of palliatives where necessary.
Citing specific examples, Hajiya Zubaida said, “The Governor provided vast land for the construction of over 200 houses by the Agency for the resettlement of displaced victims of different disasters. I am also aware that the State Emergency Management Agency is always stocked with assorted food items, building materials, farming inputs, bedding, and clothing materials for cushioning possible hardship resulting from natural disasters.”
On the overall performance of the Idris administration, the NEMA DG, who is an indigene of Kebbi State, said:
“I don’t need to be told because I am an indigene. My frequent visits to the state have shown remarkable transformations in all sectors of development, particularly in infrastructure, education, agriculture, health, and interestingly, welfarism.”
Earlier, the leader of the Media Team and Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK, said the visit was aimed at showcasing the socio-economic transformation projects and programs executed by the Comrade Nasir Idris administration.
