The Young Progressives Party (YPP) governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Pharm. Wafarinyi Theman, on Monday unveiled a 17-point agenda he said would guide his administration if elected in 2027.
Speaking in a press conference in Yola under the campaign theme “Adamawa Reset Project,” Theman described the manifesto as evidence-based and said his government would draw on public input so that development goals could be pursued collectively.
He said security would come first, under a programme tagged “We the People” and through a State Security Trust Fund, before education and health.
On education, he adopted the slogan “No child should be left out of school,” pledging that no pupil would be denied basic education because of poverty.
Citing figures available to him, Theman said more than 58,000 school children in the state still take lessons under trees despite heavy spending on the sector. He called the situation “unacceptable” and said it must change.
On agriculture and rural development, he promised to create a Ministry of Food Production, expand mechanised farming and turn Adamawa into a food-processing hub for the North-East.
He also pledged policies on poverty reduction and housing, including a proposed microfinance institution to be called the Gongola Regional Development Bank.
Youth skills, technology and women’s economic inclusion would be another priority, he said, noting that about 65 per cent of the state’s population are young people who need training as future leaders.
Theman further promised revenue reform and public accountability, with attention to tourism, culture and sports as engines of people-oriented growth.
Adamawa, he argued, already has the human and natural resources to prosper; what it needs is political will from the executive and support from citizens.
Theman is a former member of the Adamawa State House of Assembly for Hong Constituency and a former state secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC). And later joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) before moving to the YPP, which adopted him as its 2027 governorship candidate.
