Prominent Anambra businessman and politician, Chief Okey Ezeibe, has died in a hotel in Imo State.
Ezeibe, until his death, was the Chief Executive Officer and founder of Legacy Motors, also known as Legacy Urban Peony Services Limited. He was also a former President and member of the Board of Trustees of the Balogun Business Association (BBA) in Lagos.
He reportedly travelled to Imo State for a meeting with Chief Martins Agbaso, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in the state.
According to reports, Ezeibe was initially scheduled to meet Agbaso over dinner, but the meeting could not hold after the NDC candidate travelled to Delta State for another engagement.
The two men were subsequently said to have agreed to meet over breakfast the following morning.
However, when Ezeibe failed to leave his hotel room at the scheduled time, his associates reportedly became concerned. They knocked repeatedly on the door and eventually forced it open, where they found him dead.
Although the exact cause of his death had not been officially established at the time of the report, sources cited by the publication suggested that he may have suffered a heart attack.
Ezeibe was also known to have maintained close relationships with prominent political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
In May 2026, Atiku reportedly travelled to Marrakech, Morocco, to chair the wedding ceremony of Ezeibe’s son, Muna Ezeibe, who married Cherina, daughter of former Burkina Faso Prime Minister Lassina Zerbo.
Atiku had described his attendance at the wedding as an honour to a personal friendship with Ezeibe that had lasted more than 45 years.
In the build-up to the 2027 general elections, Ezeibe was also reported to have supported the presidential ambition of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, who is identified in the report as the NDC presidential candidate.
His death has since drawn attention among business and political circles in Anambra and beyond.
