Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, has announced the demise of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, the 3rd civilian Governor of the defunct Gongola State and former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The elder statesman, Tukur accomplished businessman and distinguished politician, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2026, after a brief illness.

Fintiri described his death as a monumental loss to Adamawa State and Nigeria. He commended Tukur’s courage, foresight, patriotism and lifelong commitment to public service.

Governor Fintiri stated this in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wunosikou saying “Alhaji Bamanga Tukur was a colossus who made remarkable contributions to the development of Adamawa State and Nigeria.”

“His wealth of experience, wisdom and commitment to public service earned him a place of honour in our national history”.

The Governor express concern that he would personally miss the elder statesman’s wise counsel and the depth of experience he brought to matters concerning the state and nation. “His passing away has left a significant void that will be difficult to fill,” he added.

He extended his warned condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, his friends, associates and the people of Adamawa State. He urged them to draw strength from Tukur’s enduring legacy of service and leadership.

Honouring Alhaji Tukur and in recognition of his contributions, Governor Fintiri has declared three days of mourning across Adamawa State. During the period, all government flags will fly at half-mast.

Fintiri prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings, grant him Aljannah Firdaus, and give his family and loved ones the fortitude to bear the loss.
