The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji-Ama, has ordered disciplinary action and a thorough investigation into the alleged disappearance of an armed robbery suspect reportedly arrested and taken to the 3-3 Police Station.
The Commissioner directed that queries be issued to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the station and a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) over the incident.
He also ordered the immediate commencement of disciplinary proceedings against an Inspector of Police allegedly connected to the matter.
The directives were contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.
The development followed a viral video alleging that an armed robbery suspect arrested and brought to the 3-3 Police Station could no longer be accounted for.
According to the statement, CP Oji-Ama personally interviewed the complainant and police officers involved in the matter on Monday, October 5, 2026, to establish the circumstances surrounding the allegation.
The Commissioner described the development as serious, stressing that failure to properly account for a suspect in police custody could undermine public confidence in the police.
He warned that the command would not tolerate unprofessional conduct, dereliction of duty, abuse of office or any compromise of established police procedures by its personnel.
CP Oji-Ama subsequently directed the Command’s X-Squad to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the suspect’s arrest, detention, documentation and subsequent whereabouts.
The investigation will also determine the roles and responsibilities of all officers involved in the matter.
The Commissioner said necessary operational measures had been put in place to facilitate the arrest of the suspect, assuring the public that the outcome of the investigation would be made public after the facts had been established.
He, however, urged members of the public to refrain from circulating unverified information that could prejudice the investigation, insisting that the matter must be resolved through due process.
CP Oji-Ama reiterated that accountability remained a key principle of his leadership, stressing that no police officer was above scrutiny or the established disciplinary procedures of the Nigeria Police Force.
