Arewa for Asiwaju visits APC National Chairman, reaffirms support for Tinubu’s 2027 reelection
The delegation was led by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, former Governor of Kano State and former Minister of Education.
Speaking during the visit, Mallam Shekarau explained that the group was established to galvanise support across Northern Nigeria for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, in recognition of the administration’s programmes, policies and development initiatives, particularly those targeted at the North.
He said the group was committed to engaging stakeholders and mobilising support for the President’s agenda, while strengthening political collaboration across the region.
The Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Senator Simon Bako Lalong, former Governor of Plateau State, said Arewa for Asiwaju comprised experienced political leaders who understood the political dynamics of the North and the importance of continuity in governance.
Senator Lalong noted that the group believed in the need to allow President Tinubu to consolidate the reforms his administration had initiated, which its members considered important to the country’s development.

He assured the APC National Chairman that Arewa for Asiwaju would work in collaboration with the Party’s existing structures and campaign council to mobilise support and contribute to the President’s re-election efforts.
Lalong stressed that the group’s approach would be anchored on cooperation with party leaders and stakeholders across the North to advance its objectives.
In his response, the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda Goshewe, expressed appreciation for the visit and welcomed the group’s commitment to supporting the President.
He expressed delight that experienced political leaders from Northern Nigeria were coming together under the platform to support President Tinubu’s administration, which he said had demonstrated a strong commitment to Nigeria’s development, particularly the North.
Professor Yilwatda encouraged the group to sustain its engagement with party stakeholders and work within the APC’s established structures to promote unity, cooperation and effective mobilisation.
The visit underscored the group’s intention to strengthen collaboration with the APC leadership and other stakeholders as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
