Fintiri won in 2019 without councillors, chairmen – Adamawa PDP chair Dogo, says party will still triumph

Adamawa State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Engr. Belmont Dogo has dismissed concerns over the recent alleged defection of 21 local government chairmen and 226 councillors elected on the party’s platform only months ago.
Speaking on the development, Dogo described politics as a game of interests, saying the council leaders had simply lost interest in remaining in the PDP.
He insisted the mass exit does not weaken the party in any way, stressing that the PDP remains firmly positioned to win the coming elections.
Dogo recalled that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri secured victory in 2019 without a single PDP councillor or local government chairman, yet still emerged as governor of Adamawa State.
The party, he argued, is even better grounded today. The defections, he said, have forced the PDP to return to the drawing board, rethink its strategy and emerge stronger.
He firmly rejected suggestions that the party might fail to field candidates, declaring that the PDP and its candidate, Chief Dr. Maurice Vunolki, are on course for a clear victory.
“Defection in politics is normal and this doesn’t touch the party’s political structures across the 21 local governments,” Dogo stated.
He added that the exits have only served as fuel to propel the party forward toward the swearing-in.
“We are certainly going to win, God willing. We have what it takes,” he said.
Dogo urged PDP supporters across Adamawa to remain calm, ignore the distractions of the defections, and stay focused on the elections ahead, assuring them that the party’s victory is certain.
He recalled that, the Governorship candidate of PDP in and once said, the alleged defection of the 21 Council Chairman and 226 councillors elected under the party’s platform did not elected themselves but the party supporters from the grassroots.
