Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has called on the Igbo people to unite and build strategic political alliances across Nigeria to improve their chances of producing the country’s president
Soludo said the South-East must overcome internal political divisions and work towards establishing stronger relationships with other regions to enhance its political influence and bargaining power at the national level.
The governor reportedly cited the alliance-building strategy associated with Nigeria’s First Republic political leader, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, as a model the Igbo could learn from in pursuing their presidential ambition.
He also pointed to President Bola Tinubu’s political alliances as an example of how coalition-building and cooperation among political interests can contribute to securing power.
According to Soludo, greater unity among the Igbo, combined with strategic partnerships beyond the South-East, would strengthen the region’s position in Nigeria’s political landscape.
His remarks come amid growing political discussions and preparations ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with political leaders and groups exploring alliances and strategies to influence the outcome of the contest.
The call underscores the importance of national integration, political cooperation and coalition-building in the quest for greater representation and leadership at the highest level of government.
