Hon. Thomas Victor Onwubiko, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Amuwo-Odofin Constituency II seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has felicitated Nigerians and residents of his constituency on the occasion of the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary.

Onwubiko, popularly known as TVO, described the anniversary as an important moment for Nigerians to reflect on the country’s journey since independence, celebrate its resilience and renew their commitment to building a more united, peaceful and prosperous nation.

In a goodwill message to mark the anniversary, the NDC candidate extended his warm greetings to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, as well as residents, families, community leaders, youths, women and business owners across Amuwo-Odofin Constituency II.

He said Nigeria’s independence should remind citizens of the sacrifices made by the country’s founding leaders and generations of Nigerians who contributed to the development of the nation.

According to him, the anniversary is not only an occasion for celebration but also an opportunity for citizens and leaders to reflect on the challenges confronting the country and the collective responsibility to address them.

Onwubiko urged Nigerians to remain hopeful about the future, stressing that the nation’s enormous human and natural resources could be harnessed to create opportunities for citizens and improve living standards.

He particularly called on young Nigerians to remain committed to education, entrepreneurship, innovation, and community development, describing them as important components of the country’s future.

The NDC candidate also appealed for greater unity among Nigerians, regardless of ethnic, religious, political, or social differences.

He said the progress of Nigeria requires citizens to recognise their shared interests and work together to strengthen communities and institutions.

For residents of Amuwo-Odofin Constituency II, Onwubiko expressed appreciation for their support, resilience, and contributions to the development of the constituency.

He said the independence anniversary provided an opportunity to reaffirm his commitment to the people and to the principles of accountable and people-oriented representation.

Onwubiko said his vision for public service is centred on putting the interests of constituents at the heart of governance, with particular attention to education, youth empowerment, employment opportunities, healthcare, infrastructure and support for small businesses.

He urged residents to continue to participate actively in community affairs and democratic processes, stressing that effective representation requires regular engagement between elected representatives and the people.

The NDC candidate also called on political leaders at all levels to place the welfare of citizens above personal and political interests.

He said government policies and public resources should be directed towards improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians and creating an environment where families, entrepreneurs, and young people can thrive.

According to Onwubiko, the significance of independence should be measured not only by the passage of time but also by the ability of the country to provide its citizens with opportunities to live productive and dignified lives.

He encouraged Nigerians not to lose faith in the country despite the difficulties facing the nation, saying challenges could be addressed through responsible leadership, civic participation, and collective action.

As Nigerians mark the 66th anniversary of independence, Onwubiko urged residents of Amuwo-Odofin Constituency II to celebrate peacefully and responsibly while remembering the importance of national unity.

He also commended the people of the constituency for their contributions to the social and economic development of Lagos State and Nigeria.

The NDC candidate reaffirmed his commitment to the constituency and said he would continue to engage with residents, listen to their concerns, and promote issues affecting their daily lives.

He maintained that democracy should remain centred on the people, with elected representatives accountable to those they serve.

Onwubiko wished Nigerians, particularly his constituents in Amuwo-Odofin Constituency II, a peaceful and memorable Independence Anniversary.

He called for renewed hope, unity, and commitment to building a Nigeria where citizens can enjoy greater opportunities, security, justice, and prosperity.

“As we celebrate 66 years of independence, let us remain united in our belief in Nigeria and continue to work together for a better future. I wish all Nigerians, especially the good people of Amuwo-Odofin Constituency II, a happy, peaceful, and memorable Independence Anniversary,” Onwubiko said.
