Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Affairs and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Nasarawa State in the 2027 election, has participated in a high-level parliamentary engagement between Nigeria’s National Assembly and a delegation from the German Bundestag, marking another opportunity to strengthen international legislative relations and explore areas of mutual cooperation.
The engagement, hosted at the National Assembly in Abuja, brought together Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the Deputy President of the Senate, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, distinguished lawmakers and members of the German delegation, alongside Germany’s newly appointed Ambassador to Nigeria and other members of his delegation.
The meeting underscored the importance of parliamentary diplomacy as a practical instrument for strengthening relations between nations, exchanging legislative knowledge and identifying opportunities for cooperation in areas of shared interest. It also highlighted the role of elected representatives in building institutional bridges that can promote economic development, democratic governance and stronger international partnerships.
For Senator Wadada, the engagement was particularly relevant to his responsibilities as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Affairs. His participation placed him within a strategic legislative conversation concerning Nigeria’s parliamentary relations with Germany and the broader opportunities that international cooperation can create for national development.
These areas of engagement are significant because international partnerships can provide opportunities for institutional learning, technical cooperation, investment promotion and the exchange of ideas on public policy. For Nigeria, stronger parliamentary relations with Germany could help create channels through which legislators share experiences and explore practical approaches to national development.
Senator Wadada’s participation also provides an opportunity to consider how experience gained through national and international legislative engagements can inform development priorities at the state level.
For a state seeking to expand its economic opportunities, international engagement is most valuable when it translates into practical benefits for citizens. These may include improved institutional capacity, stronger technical education, support for small businesses, agricultural value addition and opportunities for local industries to participate in wider markets.
This distinction is important as Senator Wadada pursue the governorship of Nasarawa State in 2027. His experience in parliamentary diplomacy could become relevant to the task of exploring external partnerships, while his proposed development priorities ~ the HEARTS AGENDA would need to be supported by clear policies, sound planning and measurable results.
Senator Wadada’s role as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Affairs places him within this process of legislative engagement. It is an opportunity to contribute to discussions that connect Nigeria’s domestic development objectives with the possibilities offered by international cooperation.
As the 2027 governorship election approaches, Senator Wadada’s legislative activities will remain part of the material available to voters as they assess the experience, proposals and records of the candidates seeking their mandate.
