2027: Ekwunife highlights six development projects in Ojoto as she seeks senate return
By Sunny A. David, Awka
Senator Uche Ekwunife has highlighted six major community development interventions in Ojoto, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, as part of efforts by her supporters to strengthen her bid for a return to the Senate in 2027.
The interventions, which cover education, transportation, public infrastructure, healthcare and individual empowerment, are being presented as evidence of her commitment to grassroots development and constituency engagement
According to a statement issued by her media team, the projects and initiatives reflect her approach to representation, with emphasis on addressing the practical needs of communities.
In the education sector, Ekwunife facilitated the distribution of textbooks and writing materials to Community Primary School and Girls Secondary School, Ojoto. The initiative was aimed at supporting teaching and learning while reducing the financial burden on parents.
She also facilitated the provision of a tricycle to the community to improve transportation and ease mobility for residents.
In the area of public infrastructure, the former senator facilitated the installation of solar-powered streetlights in parts of Ojoto. The project is expected to improve visibility at night, enhance security and make movement easier for residents.
Another intervention was the construction of a borehole equipped with an overhead water tank to improve access to clean water for households and other community needs.
In healthcare, Ekwunife reportedly organised three free medical outreaches at different locations in Ojoto, including Health Centre, Ojoto Uno, and Ezema Hall.
During the exercises, residents received free medical attention and medications, providing relief to individuals and families who might otherwise struggle to afford basic healthcare services.
The sixth intervention focused on individual empowerment, through which six indigenes of the community reportedly benefited.
The beneficiaries are Chidolue Ozichi Caroline, Ifionu Henry Obiemeka, Nkwoemeka Ebele Florence, Okeoma Uba, Chimezie Mbanu and Blessing Uju Victor.
Her supporters maintain that the empowerment programme demonstrates the importance of supporting individuals economically, rather than limiting community development efforts to physical infrastructure alone.
They argue that the six interventions reflect a pattern of grassroots engagement that goes beyond election campaigns, insisting that effective political representation should be measured by tangible contributions to the welfare of the people.
The development initiatives are also being highlighted as part of Ekwunife’s record as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
The contest for the Anambra Central Senatorial District seat is expected to attract considerable competition, with aspirants likely to be assessed on their experience, legislative capacity, constituency engagement and contributions to community development.
Ekwunife’s supporters believe her previous experience in the National Assembly, political network and reported interventions across communities place her in a strong position to seek another mandate.
For residents of Ojoto, the initiatives address some essential needs, ranging from educational support and transportation to electricity, potable water, healthcare and personal empowerment.
As the 2027 elections approach, her supporters say the interventions provide voters with specific areas through which to assess her record, while urging the electorate to consider continuity, experience and effective representation in choosing their next senator.
Ultimately, the decision on who represents Anambra Central in the 11th National Assembly will rest with the electorate, who will have the opportunity to examine the records, credentials and development plans of all competing candidates.
