The Nasarawa South Senatorial Candidate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Mike Omeri, has pledged to focus on issue-based campaigns, job creation, security and overall development of the zone if elected in 2027.

Hajiya Maryam Osuza, Spokesperson for Omeri’s Campaign, stated this on Tuesday in Lafia at a press briefing after assuming her new role as official spokesperson of the campaign.

Osuza said she accepted the appointment with humility, dedication, deep sense of duty and promised to discharge the role with honesty and professionalism.

Omeri was the former Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and is aspiring to represent the Nasarawa South Senatorial District, which comprises Awe, Doma, Obi, Keana and Lafia local governments.

According to her, the campaign for the Nasarawa South Seat is bigger than politics; it is about restoring confidence in public service and ensuring that the voices of communities are heard at the highest level of the national decision-making body.

Osuza highlighted challenges facing the zone to include youth unemployment, insecurity affecting farmers, poor rural roads, lack of support for agriculture, inadequate women’s empowerment, weak education and healthcare systems.

“The people of Nasarawa South deserve a senator with proven competence, integrity, national acceptance and the experience to attract opportunities to our land. That person is Dr Omeri,” she stated.

Osuza praised Omeri’s record as NOA’s former Director-General under former President Goodluck Jonathan, and applauded his work in strategic communication and public administration spanning over three decades.

She added that Omeri has never forgotten home and has facilitated opportunities, mentorship and appointments for sons and daughters of Nasarawa State.

Osuza said that throughout Omeri’s career in public service, he built bridges across ethnic, religious and political divides and served Nigeria with distinction, as well as establishing relationships that cut across every region of the country.

“He is not a politician driven by tribal or religious sentiments; he belongs to every community in Nasarawa South because he believes that leadership must unite rather than divide,” she said.

“We shall conduct an issue-based, peaceful and respectful campaign. We shall speak to the aspirations of our people. We shall present practical solutions.

“We shall engage every community with sincerity, civility and mutual respect. We will not campaign based on hatred, falsehood or division,” she emphasised.

She called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, youths, women, professionals, artisans, farmers and students to support the movement for responsible leadership in the zone.

“This is the time to choose experience over experimentation. This is the time to choose integrity over empty statements. This is the time to choose competence over poor quality.

“This is the time to elect a leader who understands government, enjoys national goodwill and possesses the capacity to deliver effective representation,” she added.
