The Nasarawa State Government has warned against growing political thuggery activities, flagrant obstruction of traffic, destruction of campaign materials and other acts capable of disrupting peace in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The warning is contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Labaran Magaji and made available to newsmen in Lafia.
According to the statement, the government observed with dismay recent incidents including traffic obstruction, destruction of banners and billboards, public incitement and attacks on innocent citizens.
It warned that the Government would no longer tolerate such unlawful acts being perpetrated in the State, which might lead to the destruction of lives and property.
The statement clarified that the government was not against individuals supporting candidates of their choice within the confines of the law.
However, it said it would not condone any action that threatens the existing peace in the state.
”Government observed with dismay the recent political activities happening in the State such as thuggery, flagrant obstruction of traffic, destruction of banners/billboards, public incitement.
“And unnecessary attacks on innocent law-abiding citizens all in the name of politics with attendant consequences on security and harmonious co-existence.
“The ongoing attempt by some unscrupulous elements to overheat the polity is condemnable in its totality as it is capable of affecting the sustained peaceful co-existence put in place by the Administration of His Excellency, the Governor,” the statement read.
According to the statement, the government has warned that appropriate lawful measures would be taken against violators who fail to adhere to the directive.
”Accordingly, His Excellency, Gov. Abdullahi Sule, in the exercise of his powers, has called for order and sanity in the political landscape of the State.
“Failure to adhere strictly to these directives, appropriate lawful measures would be taken against violators.
”Security agencies are therefore charged to intensify efforts to ensure the enforcement of this directive, please,” the statement read in parts.
