Bauchi FRSC commences 3-day special operations to ensure safety, compliance with traffic regulations

Bauchi State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC), RS 12.1, has commenced the three-day Intervention Special Patrol, ZISP, code-named “Operation Ride Safe” from Wednesday, 12th to Friday, 14th August, 2026.
The disclosure was made by the Sector Commander, CC Caleb Luka, who said that the operation was part of sustained efforts by the command to reduce Road Traffic Crashes, RTCs, fatalities and injuries resulting from Overloading, Mixed Loading, OVL, and the use of Worn-Out/Expired Tyres, TYV, across Bauchi, Borno and Yobe States.
According to him, the August edition of the Special Intervention Patrol is in compliance with the directive of the National Headquarters through the Zonal Command to initiate Special Intervention Patrols tailored towards peculiar road traffic challenges within their respective jurisdictions.
According to him, the operation will cover deployment across major highways, identified black spots, motor parks, loading points and other high-risk locations to enhance enforcement, public enlightenment, rescue readiness and operational visibility.
He noted that while overloading and mixed loading compromise vehicle stability and increase the severity of crashes, the use of worn-out or expired tyres can significantly compromise vehicle control and safety, particularly during emergency braking and adverse road conditions, which often result in tyre bursts.
He emphasized that the operation is designed not only to enforce compliance with traffic regulations but also to educate motorists, commercial drivers, transport operators and the general public on the dangers associated with these unsafe practices.
According to him, patrol teams have been directed to intensify enforcement against overloading and mixed loading; conduct detection and enforcement against worn-out and expired tyres; inspect commercial vehicles before departure; carry out public enlightenment campaigns at motor parks, loading points and in communities; engage stakeholders including transport unions, fleet operators and vehicle owners; increase patrol visibility along major highways and identified high-risk corridors; and ensure prompt rescue response where necessary.
