Arising from an emergency congress meeting of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Plateau State University Branch, as directed by the Zone and the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Union, which held on 15th September, 2026 in Jos, Congress reviewed the issues that led to the declaration of the strike on 26th August, 2026 and resolved to suspend the strike action.

The suspension followed an agreement reached between the negotiation teams of the State Government and the Union.

The Government team was headed by the Head of Service, Mr. Steven Pam Gadong, and the Union’s team was headed by the Zonal Coordinator Professor Aku Timothy Namo.

The meeting took place at the Conference hall of the Head of Service.

Others are construction of trenches around the perimeter fence, cessation of the intimidation of Union leaders, as contained in the letter to Congress dated 18th May, 2026, through the Registrar and payment of 22 months’ arrears of the 25%/35% wage award.

In a statement issued by Dr. Vincent D. Choji, Branch Chairperson and
Dr. Lomka Iliya Kopdiya, Branch Secretary, having reviewed the agreement, Congress resolved that the strike be suspended with effect from 12:00 midnight, 16th September, 2026.
