19-year-old 400-level varsity student killed by hit-and-run driver in Bauchi, she was my favourite last baby – Mother

For the Daniel Kambai family, Tuesday, 14th of July 2026, will remain a date they will never forget, on the sad date, the last baby of the family, 19 years old Rebecca, a 400-level student of Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare, was gruesomely knocked down and killed by a yet to be identified hit-and-run driver.

A family source disclosed that late Rebecca just returned from the School on holidays when she met her untimely death following the fatal crash which occured on the Tuesday evening.

According to the family source, late Rebecca had forgotten some of her belongings at the school and arranged with her friends who way billed it to her from Azare.

It was further disclosed that when the driver arrived Bauchi park, around Awala Hotel, he called her to go collect the stuff and one her brothers took her there on a motorcycle.

After collecting the stuff and on their way back home, she chose to ride the motorcycle, on getting to Police Officers Mess along Bauchi-Jos road, just about to take a turn to their area in New GRA, a Sharon mini bus hit the motorcycle.

Late Rebecca was said to have hit her head on the surface of the road thereby having a fractured skull leading to her death on the spot while her brother was injured.

A First Information Report (FIR) of road traffic crash (RTC) by RS12.1 Bauchi Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) indicated that the crash occurred on 14/07/2026 at 1715hrs, it was reported at 1720hrs while personnel arrived the scene at 1730hrs, a response time of 10 minutes along the Bauchi – Jos route in front of the Police Officers’ Mess.

The crash involved one UDIIO JINCHENG motorcycle with registration number TFB-38-QB, used for private service.

According to the FIR, two people, one male adult and one female adult were involved with the male adult injured while the female adult was killed in paved rough driven situation.

The items recovered were One motorcycle, one strecher for Women hair and one pair of shoes.

The injured was evacuated and taken to ATBU Teaching Hospital for medical attention while remains of the dead was deposited at ATBUTH mortuary during the operation led by MI – III CT Galadima.

Reacting to the situation, Mrs Doris Kambai, late Rebecca’s mother, said,, “I am the mother of Rebecca that we just lost yesterday. It’s actually a time of grief for the whole family. My daughter, and she’s my last baby, she will be greatly missed.”

According to her, “She was actually my favorite, and, you know, the siblings even know that. She’s actually the one that took after me in so many ways, and I have been so proud of her. Such an intelligent, brilliant girl. Her coming to my life was actually a blessing.”

The grieving mother said,”Ever since She came to my life, so many things changed. And for that, I am so grateful. Well, there is nothing we can do about it. God gives and He has taken. May his name be forever praised.”

“I want to appreciate as many as have rallied around me throughout this moment of grief. I lack words to show my appreciation. It’s my prayer that the Lord will reward each one at the point of their needs. In their days of comfort, they will meet people that will rally around them and comfort them. I’m so grateful. Thank you so much.”
