Archbishop Emmanuel Chukwuma, retired Archbishop of Enugu Province, vehemently denounced Ibrahim Babangida’s recent admission of MKO Abiola’s victory in the annulled June 12, 1993, election, calling it “absolute rubbish” and an insult to Nigerians.

He demanded that the Federal Government posthumously honor Professor Humphrey Nwosu, the late NEC Chairman who oversaw the election, noting the unfairness of recognizing Abiola and Babagana Kingibe while neglecting Nwosu, who died October 24, 2024, and will be buried March 28.

Chukwuma urged the government to erect a national monument in Nwosu’s honor and incorporate this into his burial arrangements.

He further condemned Babangida’s justification for the annulment as a falsehood, blaming the ensuing decades of bad leadership and electoral instability on Babangida’s actions.

The Archbishop called for Babangida to apologize to the families of Abiola and Nwosu, and to the nation as a whole, for his role in the June 12 crisis.

He even suggested that Babangida should face imprisonment for his actions.
