With the easing of interstate boundary lockdown, our correspondent has observed a massive return of tertiary students back to their campuses despite
that Federal Government has not released plans for the reopening of schools.
Our correspondent was at Ifite Village Awka where most students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka reside and noted an increase in activities by students including those returning to their halls of residence with their travelling bags.
A student of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Mr. Ebuka Chukwuma and Miss Vanessa Okoye of Geology Department explained that they grew weary staying at home for almost five months due to the shutdown of schools occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic.
They were however, of the view that Federal and State governments should ensure that it funds schools to acquire adequate facilities for the prevention of spread of the disease before considering reopening of schools.
They also appealed to school management to intervene on the issue of their house rent that is expiring, even though the academic year is yet to come to an end.
On how they spent the period of the lockdown, some said while they waited and saw that the reopening of Schools will take more time than usual, they began to seek for skills to acquire to make their stay less futile.
