The Kebbi State Governor’s Media Team has recorded significant gains following an advocacy and familiarization visit to leading national and international broadcast stations in Lagos.
Led by the Commissioner for Information, Yakubu Ahmed BK, the team engaged Channels Television, BBC, Radio France International, TVC Communications, and Arise Television.
The engagements yielded pledges of support for the Comrade Governor Nasir Idris administration, particularly around publicity for government programmes, journalist capacity building, and education.
This was contained in a statement by Abdullahi Idris Sadaukin Zuru, Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to Kebbi State Governor.
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has expressed commitment to providing no-cost training for journalists nominated by Kebbi State Government at Channels Academy in Abuja.
The goal is to strengthen professional skills for effective enlightenment of the values of democracy and good governance in the state. Also discussed and accepted as another gracious offer was the consideration of Kebbi State for a specialized radio phone-in education programme targeting different categories of children to help address the challenge of out-of-school children.
All five media organisations pledged to support adequate coverage of Kebbi’s development programme through their various stations and online publications, citing the remarkable progress being achieved under Comrade Governor Nasir Idris.
At Radio France International,(RFI)s Abuja office, the Head of the Bureau Mr. Joseph Penney, with Hausa Service Editor Bashir Ibrahim Idris, acknowledged Kebbi’s tourism potential and expressed willingness to promote it in order to attract foreign visitors and investments.
Radio France also pledged support for sports development, including a request by the Commissioner of Information Yakubu Ahmed Bk to assist Gwandu United Football Club, similar to its past support for Kano Pillars.
In joint discussions with both the Arise Television and TVC, outlined holistic approaches for effective and sustainable media coverage for mutual benefits.
The Commissioner assured of the state government’s readiness to leverage Arise’s expertise in television broadcasting and digital journalism and to forge a strong partnership with TVC for public awareness and impact analysis of government projects.
The Commissioner thanked the organisations for their warm reception and reiterated the state government’s commitment to working with credible media partners to tell the Kebbi development story.
