Governor Soludo
BY SUNNY A. DAVID
Amidst growing insecurity in Anambra State, the State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has jetted out of the country.
One of his Media aides, Mr. Joe Anatune, confirmed this to our Correspondent in Awka on Thursday. He said, “Yes, the Governor is not in the country now.”
A government source who would not want to be identified said, “The Governor is out of the country to rest.”
He has been in office for less than a month. He was sworn in on March 17, 2022 .
The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria had had turbulent times in less than a month he had ruled the State.
Twenty four hours after his inauguration, he took a radical decision by marking out over 200 buildings in Okpoko for demolition in line with his administration’s policy on urban renewal.
Days later, he embarked on chasing out touts in Onitsha, especially at the Upper Iweka areas where touts had constituted threats to the free flow of trade in the area.
Within same period, Governor Soludo had metaphorically moved into the forests and bushes in the State to dislodge hoodlums who were kidnapping and maiming innocent people.
The dislodged criminals were said to be responsible for the burning of two Local Government Headquarters and attacking three Police Stations in the State where no fewer than five Policemen were killed.
A Right Group, the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) had recently accused Prof. Soludo of igniting the resurgent insecurity in Anambra State and the entire South-East region through what it called Soludo’s unguarded utterances.
The Group which stated this through its board of trustees Chairman, Mr. Emeka Umeagbalasi, said security issues should not be an open pursuit the way the Governor was handling.
The Group said, “Unguarded uttrances, generalizations and lack of credible intelligence as fundamental threats capable of undermining the formative stability of the Government of Prof. Charles Soludo in Anambra State.
“The person of Prof. Charles Soludo may also need to work hard to wriggle himself out of ‘over knowledge mastership syndrome’. This, if not corrected or tamed now, may lead to the new Governor being left or isolated by people of good conscience especially the ‘homeland’ democratic forces in the State.
“The ‘homeland’ democratic forces in the State have since resolved to join hands with the new Governor to turn Anambra State positively around on condition that their constructive voices must be heard and acted upon when freely given.
“It is therefore a global elementary knowledge that sensitive security issues are not handled through unguarded public utterances and ‘generalizations. It is also instructive to point out that the backbone of security and intelligence in the world lies on detection, thorough verification of the detected and their handling styles anchored on pre action muting on what has been detected and un-muting of same after what has been detected has been operated upon through intelligence and ICT powered operations.
