The chairman of Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Hon Danjuma Peter Averik, led a high man powered delegation to the headquarters of the Kaduna Electric to negotiate for the return of electricity in the area.
The chairman in his speech, lamented over the unfortunate incidence that took place on Monday the 18th of January,2021 and promised that such an event will not come to bare in the history of the area again.
Mr Danjuma also pleaded with the top Management of Kaduna Electric to return power in the area as economic and social activities have been halted and should the situation continues, it may cause another ugly security challenge
The chairman further explained to the Kaduna Electric Management how his Council have had sleepless nights in trying to find a lasting solution to the unfortunate predicament. He noted that he has organised and sponsored several meetings with critical stakeholers in the area and in one of the meetings they resolved to officially write the Kaduna Electric to apologized for what happened and to request them to return power in the area.
He also mentioned that as part of their recommendation too going forward, the current Busines Manager be relieved and a new one be posted on the basis that the people in the area have lost confidence in him.
He also stated that community engagement should be improve as other stakeholders stand a better chance to help the Kaduna electric in achieving their said target in the area.
He appreciated the efforts of the security agencies In the whole scenerio and for their unrelenting efforts since the day the protest took place
Speaking earlier, the Honourable Member representing Jema’a LG in the state Assembly, Hon Ali Kalat who was part of the delegation equally appreciated the chairman of the council for his untiring efforts in the area and thanked the management of Kaduna Electric for the audience.
Hon Ali noted that the situation was really an ugly one for not only the Kaduna Electric but to the entire people of Jema’a LG and the state at large
He pleaded to them to let go what had happen and let a new page be opened. He do promised to work closely with the chairman to ensure security of staff and properties of Kaduna Electric in the area,thus requesting them to restore the light as soon as possible.
The seven man delegation include: The representative of the Emir and chiefs, representative of the youths, representative of civil organizations, and that of consumers
In his remarks, the General Manager of the Kaduna Electric who was represented by Alh. Abubakar Jimeta thanked the LG council for the initiative and the August visit in January.
He also lamented over the Incidence which according to him have caused them great loses.
He explained that the Kafanchan Busines Area is one among the few areas that the company have tried to manage over the years due to the fact that the money generated from the area is not in anyway close to what they expect. According to Alh. Jimeta, Kaduna Electric are losing more money in the Kafanchan business area as only 25% of the expected amount is obtained, meaning they looses 75% yearly.
He gave an example of the year 2020 where Kaduna Electric supply about 54million MWh of light to the area at the cost value of 1,7billion (as billing), but only 176.4 million naira was realised for the whole year which represents 22% of the total amount.
In a summary, they management promised to released light as soon as possible but on the ground that they must be sure of the safety of their staff and properties. They also challenged the police to step up actions to fish out those who were behind the protest and prosecute them according to the demands of the law.
in his closing remarks, the chairman of the LG, Hon Averik thanked them for the gesture and audience and promised to keep his words of providing every security to both the staff and their properties of Kaduna Electric should they resume work.
He also requested them to help investigate the issue of Ung. Musa that has been lingering over time and to help find a lasting solution to it, a tax Kaduna Electric promised to see to it soon.
The meeting lasted for about two and half hours in the Kaduna Electric Headquarters, Kaduna.
