Mrs. Pauline Tallen, Minister of Women Affairs
The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Pauline Tallen has charged Karshi women to ensure they play a peaceful and healthy role in the society by inculcating sound moral instruction into their children and younger generation.
Mrs. Tallen who was speaking at an interactive session with Rural Women in Karshi village, AMAC, Federal Capital Territory in continuation of the 2021 International Women Day (IWD) with the team, “Women in Leadership: Achieving an Equal Future in the COVID-19 World’’ at the weekend said, though challenges exist in addressing the women and girls issues in the country, with renewed commitments and determination of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari and other stakeholders collectively they will make a mark in addressing the challenges confronting women and girls in Nigeria.
She said in recognition of these, the Ministry is addressing the challenges confronting the rural women through:
High level advocacy to States Governors, Legislatures/Senate, Traditional Rulers, Religious Leaders and other gate keepers on issues affecting women to reduce their vulnerability to poverty and hardship;
Partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture on the Gender agriculture policy document to improve the lives of rural women in Nigeria;
Engagement of Media on the plight of women and children especially on Gender Equality agenda and frameworks.
Mrs. Tallen also said, the Ministry identified with the women on Karshi because of the hardship the COVID-19 pandemic has dealth on the world which is seriously affecting the economy of nations with women as worst hit.
She also urged women to make sure girl-child education is put at the front burner and issue relating to gender based violence is taken care of with the support of the community stakeholders.
In continuation of the 2021 IWD, the Minister shared some gifts items such as rice, garri, vegetable oil, wrapper and others to Karshi women.
The wife of the chief of Karshi, Mrs. Halima Muhammed said the only way to achieve development is to send the children to school and above all the girl child education cannot be quantified because when you educate a girl you have no problem because she is a home maker.
“We intend to keep sensitising our people. We have a scholarship scheme in Karshi for children that are orphaned and those whose parents cannot pay their School fees so that they can also aquire education. We do that through various support.
Speaking on behalf of Karshi women, the president, Affordable Housing Estate Women Association (AHEWA) Karshi, Mrs. Grace Auta said, some mothers cannot be able to send their children to school because of of insecurity but with the Minister’s and other issues but with the word of encouragement from the Minister, they will go back home and relate to their husbands on the need to support the children education especially the girl-chil.
She lauded the Minister’s for the gifts she brought for the women adding that it will go a long way to relieve them. “Many family have not been finding it easy to feed and we know this is a big gifts to us.”
