The Katsina State Government has announced plans to commence distribution of rice to the elderly, women, widows and orphans across the state as part of a free palliative initiative.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda confirmed this during the launch of the Ramadan commodities donated by Hon. Sani Aliyu Danlami, the member representing Katsina Central Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives at the Old Government House in Katsina.
This was contained in a statement by Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.
According to Governor Radda, the distribution of grains and rice which Katsina, Daura and Funtua local government areas benefited last year is set to begin simultaneously across the remaining 31 local government areas soon.
He assured Katsina residents of his administration’s commitment to sustaining programme aimed at alleviating the hardships they are facing.
Radda said: “As part of this commitment, monthly allowances for chief imams, their assistants, and Muezzins of Jumaat mosques will now be disbursed directly into their individual accounts. Additionally, APC officials from wards, local government and State levels have been incorporated into the monthly payroll”.
Expressing appreciation to Hon. Danlami for his donation, Governor Radda hoped for the continuation of such generous gestures.
The targeted beneficiaries of the food items include one thousand vulnerable individuals, five hundred political groups, and two hundred and fifty orphans and youths.
Hon. Danlami in his address, emphasized that his decision to provide the food items was inspired by Governor Radda’s benevolent actions during the Ramadan period.
The donated food items comprised 2000 bags of 25 kilograms of rice, and 100 bags each of maize and millet, aimed at vulnerable groups, orphans, youths, and political groups across the local government areas of Katsina.
The Chairman of Katsina Local Government, Alhaji Aminu Ashiru, expressed gratitude to the state governor for awarding various contracts worth about N7 billion in the local government headquarters.
He also appreciated the introduction of free Ramadan feeding programmes and the sale of grains at subsidized prices.
