Kebbi women affairs ministry puts smiles on faces of orphans with party, zoo excursion

The Kebbi State Ministry for Women Affairs has organised a party for orphans and the vulnerable children in the state in order to give them sense of belonging and putting smiles on their faces by serving them exquisite dishes that hitherto they never had a taste of.

Speaking at the occasion, which was held in Birnin Kebbi at premisses of the Ministry, Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Halima Hassan, said government decided to organise the event to make the orphans feel at home and have hope for a beautiful future.

“We want the orphans to be like other children, whose parents are still alive, hence the decision to celebrate with them to give them a sense of belonging in continuation of Eid-el-Fitr celebration for children across the state,” she said.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Hajiya Aishatu Mohammed Maikurata lauded the commissioner for her efforts to organise such an important events, pledging the support of the entire staff of the Ministry to the Commissioner in her endeavors to provide to the less privileged in the society.

Earlier, the ministry officials had taken the children to the Jadeen Zoo and Park in Kalgo, Kalgo Local Government Area, eight kilometres away from the state capital, Birnin Kebbi.

The children were happily cunducted round the zoo where they vividly expressed their joy for having a glimpse at the wild lives for the first time in their existence, leaving indelible marks in their memories as well as in the sands of history of the state.

A cross section of the children interviewed expressed happiness over what they described as wonderful experience and hoped for a repeat of the visit next time.
