Nasarawa Chairman of NLC Comrade Ismaila Oko addressing workers in Lafia

Ahead of the planned nationwide protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress against the recent hike in the price of petrol, the organised labour in Nasarawa State has commenced mobilization of workers to participate fully in the action.
The State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Ismaila Oko stated this at the end of a emergency meeting with leaders of all the unions that make up the organised labour on Tuesday in Lafia.
Comrade Oko said the workers had been mobilized to turn up in large number and gather along Lafia-Shendam road in the state capital to proceed with the protest.
He said that workers were committed to the protest as directed by the national body of the Nigeria Labour Congress to draw attention of government to take measures towards reducing the hardship as a result of the removal of fuel subsidy.
The state Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Salihu Alkali pointed out that the situation was becoming unbearable as according to him, most workers could no longer afford three square meal since the increase in the price of petrol.
Comrade Alkali called on Nasarawa State Government to take a cue from other states and commence immediate provision of palliative measures to address some of the challenges workers face especially transportation.
