Nasarawa basic education board chairman frowns at contractors involve in shoddy work

The Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board, Executive Chairman, Hon. Muhammad Musa Dan’azimi, (Barayan Daddare) has frown at contractors perpetrating contract work and vowed to take decisive action against any contractor found violating the contract agreement sign with it.

The Executive Chairman made the remarks at a maiden meeting with contractors awarded 2020 – 2021 UBEC/SUBEB intervention fund projects which held at the SUBEB headquarters. He was represented by the Director, Administration and Supplies, Mr. Gwatana Shigaba.

This was contained in a statement by Gana Lawal Ahmed, Public Relations Officer,
Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board.

He said, the Board would not hesitate to revoking contract found wanting in the area of quality and respect for the specified contract period.

The SUBEB chairman, who also addressed the issues bordering the sale of contract work beyond the exorbitant percentage, which he said, is unpatriotic, unprofessional and unethical.

He appreciated His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule,Executive Governor, Nasarawa State for prompt release of counterpart funding for school projects which has resulted in massive construction and renovation of schools across the state.

Dan’ azimi, tasked community leaders in the state on the need to take ownership of government project by ensuring proper maintenance of project sited in their domain to ensure its durability.

Contributing, the Director, Physical Planning, Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board, Engr. Muhammad Shuaibu Lakpa, expressed optimism that digital monitoring of project would ensure accurate and realistic monitoring reports as well as discipline, saying the tablet or the machine at the UBEC in Abuja have been programmed to detect ever user’s location.

Lakpa, said the innovations was in line with the emerging global best practice, adding that the paradigm shift from analogue monitoring to a digital and sophisticated mode of monitoring would pave way for accountability, quality and accuracy.
” the Council of Engineering in Nigeria, SBMC,PTA, EFCC and ICPC were also involved in the monitoring of projects ” he said.

Responding on behalf of the other contractors, Mr. Alfred Ojeneni, of Alfirjens Company limited, thanked the Nasarawa State Government and the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board, for their selection for jobs, promised to execute the projects according to specifications.
