The body of late Peter Akoh, an officer of Nigeria Correctional Service in Lafia, who died on May 17, 2022 in a rented hotel apartment in Keffi, has been reportedly buried.

His stench body was evacuated from the Federal Medical Center Mortuary, Keffi and buried at Orokam, his village in Benue State during the weekend.

Late Peter Akoh served in Keffi Correctional Center for several years before he was transferred to Lafia about a year ago.

His dead body was, however, discovered two days after his death right on the floor of his rented hotel room in Keffi last week Thursday.
The news of his demise was conveyed to Prison officials in Keffi Office on Thursday by his neighbours of the hotel.

The Prison officials later contacted the Divisional Police authority, Keffi and his stench body was later deposited by the police at the FMC Keffi mortuary where it was eventually evacuated by the family members for immediate burial at Orokam in Benue State last weekend.

Investigation by Apex News Exclusive has shown that the late Mr. Akoh had maintained the rented hotel room in Keffi even while still serving at Lafia.

According our source, he had explained to some people that he preferred the peaceful life in Keffi to that of Lafia. His frequent visits to Keffi during weekends and off duties therefore necessitated a reserved hotel accommodation in Keffi.

According to one Mr. Danlami, a senior member of a Vigilante team and an elder neighbour living in the area with his two wives and several children, “Peter Akoh, popularly known as ‘Pero’, was a socialable and humble person. I know he was married and divorced but I don’t know much about his family life and history. He could have died as a result of poison attack during his social outing that night”, he added.
Now that his decompose body has been hurriedly buried without autopsy it is difficult to ascertain the circumstances of Peter’s sudden death.

All efforts by Apex News Exclusive to get official confirmation of his death from either the Nigeria Correctional Service or the Police was abortive.
