The Managing Director of Federal Medical Center, (FMC), Keffi, Dr Yahaya Baba said all hands should be on deck to make the hospital better, bigger and stronger as every well meaning organization and individuals are stakeholders.
The MD made this called while playing host to top management of Apex News Exclusive, (a fastest growing online and print media in Nigeria), in his office on Tuesday.
Dr Yahaya noted that, as an organization that has a reporter that covers Nasarawa State and and by implication FMC, it is an opportunity to make the hospital better through incisive and developmental journalism. He explained that, wherever one lives and do business that is his first place of call and should do all he can to make the facilities therein better.
He added “If you have an opportunity to make a facility better and you don’t, God forbid, the day it will catch up with you. I pray that God will continue to guide all of us to realize that it is good to develop what belongs to the people, when we have the opportunity to do so. We should do it well so that when it is our turn, we will not regret it. It is a guiding principle”.
He noted that, though there could be issue of limited funds, but doing ones’ best gives satisfaction and joy.
Speaking about his first tenure that has been renewed, the FMC boss said, it was a great opportunity to serve the public.
“We thank God the first four years are gone. We are just beginning the second four years. And I believe it is not the question of tenure, it is the question of opportunity.
“If God has given us good health and opportunity, we pray that He gives us the the funds to make this place for every one of us. So that we will prefer to be treated here in Keffi than to go to Abuja or any other place. As I have this opportunity this is what I would want to do,” he said.
Although, Dr Yahaya bemoaned daunting challenges associated with the current hike in prices of diesel and other maintanance services in the hospital, he is optimistic that, with government interventions and other avenues, he will do his best. He said the hospital has been struggling to make sure that power supply is constant to a point where about 20-30 percent of the hospital’s generation going down the drain for it. Like, FMC Keffi, Yahaya believes electricity supply is a national challenge that needs urgent attention.
“We were buying diesel at N250, but today, it is N800 to N900. This also coincides with the time there is a sharp drop in power supply. So most of the time we make use of the generator. This cost us heavily. We have to think in between the lines to solve some of these challenges,” he pointed out.
He thanked the Apex News Exclusive management for coming as well as assured them of better working relationship.
Earlier in his presentation, Antony Maliki, Edition-in-Chief, Apex News Exclusive said the purpose of the visit is to endear a better working synergy that will bring about common goal for the interest of the general public.
He added that the modern day developmental journalism requires depth and knowledge of that is obtainable, to get things done. In attendance were Dr. Edeh Christopher Ejikeme, Head Clinical Services, Samuel Torlumun, editor Apex News Exclusive, Francis Nansak, Editor Special Projects, among others.
