Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has assured the Governing Board of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU) of his administration’s continued support to strengthen the institution.
The Governor gave the assurance on Tuesday while receiving the UMYU Governing Board, led by its Chairman, Senator Hadi Sirika, at the Red Chamber, Muhammadu Buhari House, Katsina.
Governor Radda said his administration would carefully consider the requests presented by the university and take necessary steps to address issues affecting its development.
He said quality education remains a major priority of his administration, stressing that strong higher education institutions are essential to producing skilled manpower and driving the socio-economic development of Katsina State.
“We will continue to support initiatives that strengthen education, research, innovation and skills development. We will look into the issues presented and see how government can assist the university,” he said.
The Governor said the government would continue to collaborate with the university management to improve teaching and learning, strengthen research and provide a conducive environment for students and staff.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to higher, vocational and technical education, noting that the sectors are critical to equipping young people with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute meaningfully to the development of the state.
Governor Radda also assured the Governing Board that the government would give due attention to the university’s infrastructure and other development needs, subject to available resources.
Earlier, the Chairman of the UMYU Governing Council, Senator Hadi Sirika, commended Governor Radda for his continued support for education and human capital development in the state.
He highlighted the university’s key challenges, including infrastructure, staff welfare and funding, and called for stronger collaboration with the state government.
“We are committed to repositioning UMYU for greater academic excellence. With stronger collaboration, the university can overcome its challenges and achieve its development objectives,” he said.
Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor of UMYU, Professor Shehu Salihu Muhammad, appreciated Governor Radda for prioritising education and supporting the growth of the institution.
He briefed the Governor on the university’s academic programmes, research activities and ongoing projects, while presenting requests aimed at improving the institution.
“Addressing these needs will further strengthen our academic activities, improve the learning environment and enhance the university’s reputation,” he said.
Professor Muhammad also stressed the importance of continued partnership with the state government in promoting research, innovation and human capital development.
The meeting was attended by the Chief of Staff, Hon. Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir; Principal Private Secretary, Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Turaji; Commissioner for Higher, Vocational and Technical Education, Alhaji Sani Aliyu Daura; members of the Governing Board; and other principal officers of the university.
