The factional leadership of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in Anambra State has commissioned a newly acquired state secretariat in Awka, describing the development as a major step towards strengthening the party’s structure and unity across the state.
The commissioning ceremony brought together party leaders and representatives from the 21 local government areas of Anambra State, with speakers expressing optimism that the new secretariat would improve the party’s grassroots mobilisation and coordination.
Speaking at the event, the factional State Chairman of the party, Chukwudifu Patrick David, said the acquisition of the secretariat was part of efforts to consolidate the party’s political structure and create a central base for its activities.
David said the facility would provide a meeting point for party leaders, stakeholders and grassroots supporters while enhancing the party’s operations across the state.
He urged members to remain committed to the party despite challenges encountered in the past, stressing that unity, sincerity and adherence to the party’s ideology were necessary for future electoral success.
According to him, his leadership would remain accessible to members and committed to addressing their concerns.
David said, “I am not here only to be the chairman, but your loyal and confident servant. Let us move our great party, NDC, as one family.”
He further urged party members to work collectively and uphold the principles of the party, noting that internal cohesion would be critical to building a strong political organisation ahead of future elections.
Also speaking, the NDC Chairman for Oyi Local Government Area, Chief Emmanuel Ifefiora, who spoke on behalf of the 21 LGA chairmen, commended the state leadership for what he described as its effective leadership and commitment to strengthening the party at the grassroots.
Ifefiora expressed confidence that the current direction of the party would enhance its grassroots presence and improve its chances of recording electoral gains across the state.
Meanwhile, the NDC Chairman for Anaocha LGA, Nestor Alike, moved a vote of confidence in David’s leadership.
Alike described the establishment of the secretariat and the expansion of grassroots mobilisation as significant achievements that would improve the party’s visibility, stability and organisational capacity in Anambra.
The motion was seconded by the NDC Chairman for Anambra East LGA, Paul Okolo, who reaffirmed the unity of the party under David’s leadership.
Okolo also dismissed claims of internal division within the faction, maintaining that members remained united behind the state leadership.
The commissioning of the new secretariat marks another development in the faction’s efforts to strengthen its organisational structure and expand its presence across Anambra State.
