The Quincy Odafe Humanitarian Foundation (QOHF) yesterday joined the rest of the world to commemorate World Food Day 2026 with a humanitarian outreach at the NAOWA Model Nursery and Primary School, Asokoro, Abuja.

The event, organized in collaboration with the Alumni Association of the National Defence College (AANDEC), featured distribution of food items to teachers, staff of the school and widows of servicemen who died in active service.

The celebration, themed “Innovate Today. Nourish Tomorrow” in line with the United Nations theme for 2026, featured:
Lectures on Nutrition and Hygiene, Planting of seedlings demonstration by the Young Farmers Club, Distribution of food items and relief materials

Chairing the occasion, Air Commodore Emmanuel Ohanele (rtd), Secretary of the Alumni Association of the National Defence College (AANDEC), urged Nigerians to invest more in food security. “It is against the law of nature for any Nigerian to stay hungry, especially in this century. Food security is national security. We must all invest in producing what we eat,” Air Commodore Ohanele rtd said.

In her vote of thanks, Mrs. Stella Yacim, Head Teacher of NAOWA Model Nursery and Primary School, Asokoro, thanked the Quincy Odafe Humanitarian Foundation for choosing the school for the demonstration of such philanthropic gesture.

She said the school remains open to hosting more United Nations Days and called for vigorous investment to make food available and affordable for all Nigerians.

On her part, Mrs. Ann Onuigbo, the Magajiya of the NDC, who led the widows of fallen servicemen to the event, described the initiative as noble. She called on government and other stakeholders to support Non-Governmental Organizations that empower women to enable them scale up their activities for the good of humanity.

In her address, P. Amb. Peace Onwuka, Executive Officer and Project Coordinator of the Quincy Odafe Humanitarian Foundation, said the Foundation is poised to work assiduously to assist widows and personnel of the Nigerian security structure and their families.

She stated that the Foundation aligns with the stance of the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, who declared that “Food is a basic human right and not a privilege.”

The event ended with group photographs, planting exercises, and cheers from pupils.

Quincy Odafe Humanitarian Foundation is committed to restoring hope and supporting vulnerable groups, particularly widows, women, and families of the Nigerian security services.
