Adamawa 2027: Vunobolki unveils 9-point agenda, prioritises civil service, youth, women, security, others

Barely five months to the next general election cycle, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Adamawa State, Maurice Vunobolki, has outlined his 9-point agenda.

He placed civil service reforms, youth and women empowerment, education, security and financial discipline at the top of his priorities.

Speaking during an interactive session with journalists in Yola, Vunobolki presented a people-focused programme aimed at improving living conditions and building a stronger foundation for the state’s future.

He pledged that if elected, no child would be denied access to schooling. Education, he said, remains the centrepiece of his commitment to revitalise the public school system, which he described as the bedrock of social and economic development.

“Education is one of the most effective tools for reducing poverty, creating opportunities and building a productive society,” Vunobolki stated.

He promised to prioritise the strengthening of public schools across the 21 local government areas so that every child, regardless of background, can access quality education.

As part of this plan, he proposed free education and school feeding programmes to remove the financial barriers that prevent many children from enrolling or completing school.

Providing meals in schools, he noted, would boost enrolment and attendance, particularly among children from low-income families, while also supporting better learning outcomes.

Drawing from personal experience, Vunobolki recalled that he attended a public school and benefited from the quality of education available at the time.

He stressed that properly funded and managed public schools could once again become centres of excellence. 

He pledged significant investment in school infrastructure, learning materials and other facilities to make public schools more attractive to pupils, parents and teachers. Beyond the classroom, he linked education to broader social stability. 

Many societal challenges, including drug abuse, youth restiveness and crime, are often worsened by inadequate educational opportunities, he argued. Keeping children in school, he said, is not only an educational policy but also a long-term strategy for promoting peace, reducing criminality and raising a more responsible generation of citizens.

On security, Vunobolki acknowledged the challenges facing some communities in Adamawa and promised to work closely with security agencies, traditional institutions and local stakeholders to restore peace and stability.

He maintained that no meaningful development can take place in an atmosphere of fear and insecurity, and that improving safety would remain a key priority of his administration.

His vision for Adamawa, he explained, is anchored on three pillars power, prosperity and peace which he described as essential for driving economic growth and improving the welfare of the people. Prosperity would expand opportunities and raise living standards, while peace would create the stable environment needed for investment and development.

As the contest for 2027 gathers momentum, Vunobolki said his policy proposals place education and human capital development at the centre of his campaign message.

On internally generated revenue (IGR), he noted that under the present administration of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri the state’s IGR has improved. What is now required, he added, is stronger financial discipline to ensure due process is followed in all transactions.

Vunobolki called on the people of Adamawa to support his vision, assuring them that the welfare, education, security and future of citizens would remain the central focus of governance if he is given the opportunity to serve as governor.
