Bauchi suffers heavy blow as stalwarts, thousands of supporters join PRP, endorse Shehu Buba
The defectors formally declared their support for the PRP and endorsed the governorship ambition of Senator Shehu Buba Umar at a political gathering held at Games Village, Bauchi, on Sunday.

Among the prominent politicians who joined the PRP is Alhaji Shehu Barau Ningi, a former State Chairman of the CPC, PRP and NNPP, former National Treasurer of the NNPP and former Commissioner for Budget and Planning under the administration of former Governor M A Abubakar SAN.
Other notable defectors include Alhaji Danlami Garba Barau Ningi, former Chairman of Ningi Local Government Area; Alhaji Danlami Mai-Goro Dass, former Chairman of Dass LGA; Alhaji Tijjani Aminu Bakin Kura, former State Secretary and Chairman of the NNPP; Alhaji Fulani Muhammad Bread, former Chairman of ANPP Bauchi LGA; and Alhaji Mustapha Sallah Zalanga, former member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly.
Also joining the PRP are Alhaji Nazid Malam Kasuwa, Chairman of the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Bauchi State; Alhaji Bayye Jama’are, former APC State Ex-Officio member; Hajiya Sa’adatu Abdullahi Angas, former APC State Women Leader; Hajiya Sa’adatu Mamuda Liman Katagum, former APC State Women Leader; Hajiya Hadiza Dynamic, as well as thousands of their supporters.
The new PRP members said their decision was motivated by what they described as Senator Shehu Buba’s leadership qualities, accessibility and commitment to the interests of the people, as well as concerns over what they described as a lack of internal democracy within the APC.
They also alleged that the APC had imposed an unpopular candidate on its members and supporters, arguing that the decision had further widened internal divisions within the party. They expressed confidence that the PRP provides a credible platform for political participation and effective representation of the people of Bauchi State.
The event was attended by prominent PRP leaders and candidates, including Senator Samaila Kaila, representing Bauchi North; the PRP senatorial candidates for Bauchi South and Bauchi Central, Hon. Shehu Aliyu Musa Barden Gabas and Salisu Zakari Ningi Kauran Ningi, respectively.
Also present were PRP candidates for the House of Representatives and State Houses of Assembly, Hon. Ibrahim Makama Misau, local government coordinators of the Shehu Buba Umar campaign organisation, and the Bauchi State PRP Chairman, Alhaji Abdulrahman Yusuf Mu’azu, Sardaunan Boto, among other party leaders and supporters.
Speaking at the event, Senator Shehu Buba Umar welcomed the defectors and commended them for what he described as their courage, foresight and confidence in the PRP.
He said their decision to join the party and endorse his governorship ambition demonstrated growing confidence in the PRP as an alternative political platform capable of providing responsive, accountable and people-oriented leadership in Bauchi State.
Senator Shehu Buba also criticised the Bauchi State Government over what he described as inadequate attention to the welfare of workers, particularly issues relating to gratuities, pensions and other entitlements.
He further questioned the government’s spending priorities, alleging that public funds were being used excessively for the painting and beautification of public places with political campaign messages instead of addressing pressing socioeconomic challenges confronting citizens.
The Senator assured the new members and supporters that the PRP campaign would remain focused on good governance, accountability, workers’ welfare, youth empowerment, economic opportunities, infrastructure and the overall development of Bauchi State.
He called on party members, supporters and citizens across the 20 local government areas to remain united and committed to the pursuit of a new political direction for the state.
The latest defection is expected to further intensify political activities in Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 general elections, with political parties increasingly mobilising supporters and influential stakeholders across the state.
