The Anambra State Police Command has celebrated the promotion of its Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), describing the achievement as a significant milestone for the Command.
Orutugu was decorated with his new rank alongside the immediate past Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Nnaghe Obono Itam, during a ceremony held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.
According to the Command, the simultaneous elevation of both the serving and former Commissioners of Police reflects recognition of their outstanding leadership, professionalism, dedication to duty and contributions to public service.
The Command noted that during their respective tenures in Anambra, the two senior officers strengthened policing operations, fostered collaboration with key stakeholders, enhanced public confidence in the police and contributed to improved security across the state.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command described the promotions as well-deserved recognition of the officers’ commitment to the Nigeria Police Force and national service.
The statement added that the achievement further underscores the Command’s commitment to professionalism, excellence and effective service delivery.
Officers and personnel of the Anambra State Police Command congratulated the newly promoted Assistant Inspectors General of Police, expressing confidence that their experience, leadership and dedication would continue to make a positive impact in their new roles.
The Command also wished AIG Ikioye Orutugu and AIG Nnaghe Obono Itam good health, continued success and greater accomplishments as they continue to serve the Nigeria Police Force and the nation.
