Gombe FRSC laments increase in fatalities despite reduction in crashes in 6 months, embarks on operation Harbin Kunama to check traffic violations

Gombe State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has disclosed that the road traffic crash data for the first six months (Jan-June) 2026 shows a drastic reduction in road traffic crashes with a rise in fatality rate as compared to the preceding year.
it was also observed that the rise in the number of fatalities despite reduction in crashes is attributed to overloading violation, speed and route violations.
The disclosure was made in a statement signed by by the Command PEO, SRC Janet Kassa, made available to Journalists on Tuesday.
The Command reminded the people of Gombe State particularly frequent road users that, “life is lived once and there’s no second chance once death knocks.”
The FRSC stressed that, “As a lead Agency in Traffic Management and Administration in Nigeria, saddled with the responsibility of advising the Government on policies that will ensure the safety of lives and properties on our roads, we will continue to ensure it was done.”
The Gombe State Sector Commander, Samson Kaura, has assured that everything humanly possible will be done to have a safer road in the State.
The Command is observing a special intervention patrol called operation “Harbin Kunama” slated for 20th to 23rd July 2026.
The objective of the operation is to reduce climate driving violation of overloading violation, speed violation, speed limiting device violation offence, Route violation and improve compliance with traffic regulations for safer motoring environment and reduced road traffic crashes.
The motoring public and all road users are reminded that the Gombe FRSC is committed to creating a safer motoring environment throughout the state and therefore, asked for the people’s cooperation towards the success of this operation.
The PRO noted that, the inclusion of how safe to use the road in the national curriculum is a pointer that road safety is everyone’s business and we must therefore work together to improve safety on our roads.
The Sector Commander therefore thanked the Governor of Gombe State, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, for providing it with a conducive environment for operation and called on the good people of Gombe State to support the activities of the Command.
