Ohanaeze Youth Council scolds south-east governors over absence from Maj. Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi Memorial
The Apex sociocultural Youth organization of Igbo Race Worldwide Ohanaeze Youth Council(OYC) led by Comrade Igboayaka O Igboayaka has condemned Southeast Governors for their nonchalant attitude towards issues affecting Ndigbo.
During a press briefing on 29th July 2026 at Umuahia during the commemorate the 60th memorial anniversary of the death of former military head of state and supreme commander of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, late Maj. Gen. JTU Aguiyi Ironsi, Comrade Igboayaka O Igboayaka, National President General of Ohanaeze Youth Council-Oyc, criticized the nonchalant attitude of Southeast Governors towards events of significance to Ndigbo.
It is disheartening to note that Southeast Governors, namely Gov. Hope Uzodimma, Gov. Francis Nwifuru, Gov. Peter Mba, and Gov. Charles Soludo, who have assumed political office through a defective system, without exhibiting character and honor, failed to attend the memorial anniversary of the first Nigerian indigenous Major General and first Nigerian indigenous military commander of Igbo extraction.
“It is apparent that Gov. Hope Uzodimma, Gov Francis Nwifuru, Gov Peter Mba and Gov Charles Soludo absent demonstrate a lack of respect for the deceased, elders and distinguished individuals. If the late Maj. Gen. JTU Aguiyi Ironsi belonged to the Yoruba, Hausa or Fulani ethnic groups, the situation would likely be different, and it is unlikely that governors from Yoruba, Hausa or Fulani land would be absent from such a significant historical event”, he said.
Comrade Igboayaka expressed disappointment that none of the national assembly members of Igbo extraction attended Maj Gen. JTU Aguiyi Ironsi memorial anniversary, highlighting a lack of unity of purpose among Igbo leaders in both executive and parliamentary positions.
Comrade Igboayaka O Igboayaka calls on Southeast Governors, Gov Charles Soludo, Gov. Uzodimma, Gov. Nwifuru Francis, Gov Peter Mbah and other leaders of Igbo extraction to demonstrate responsibility and reasonableness in handling the affairs that concern Ndigbo.
The Maj. Gen. JTU Aguiyi Ironsi Memorial Anniversary, as envisioned by Comrade Igboayaka, should not be limited to the symbolic act of laying wreaths at the grave; rather, it should be transformed into a rich and dynamic event that combines intellectual exploration, artistic celebration, historical contemplation, and strategic planning, all geared towards promoting the political and economic resilience of Ndigbo in Nigeria, with a strong emphasis on engaging and empowering the next generation of Igbo people.
The Southeast Governors and national assembly members currently in office are seen as unsuccessful, displaying a sense of political inferiority. They did not participate in the Biafra memorial Hero’s and Heroines Anniversary, they did not participate in Late Maj. JTU Aguiyi Ironsi Memorial Anniversary, or the Igbo carnival. The present Igbo leaders are regarded as lacking confidence and a sense of inferiority, failing to provide a clear direction for Ndigbo and proven ineffective, but good in political transactions.
