Police swoop on herders, recover arms, money in Cross River

Men of Nigeria Police have swooped on suspected Fulani herders in Cross River State where they recovered arms, including one AK-47 rifle, a cutlass and the sum of N1million.

Police intercepted them at a trailer car park in Ikom where the items were recovered from them.

A statement issued by Nigeria Police zone six Public Relations Officer, SP Nelson Okpabi said the money was reportedly left by some of the suspects who fled, taking advantage of the busy park to escape.

Okpabi said ACP Emeka Onyekaba had led the X-Squad to the scene of the incident following a credible information and are trailing the suspects.

Reacting, the AIG in his valedictory speech, urged officers to redouble their efforts to ensure that the suspects who took to flight are arrested.

He appraised the courage of the officers, the good working relationship he enjoyed within his short stay in the Zone and appreciated the peace loving people of Akwa Ibom and Cross River States for their support and cooperation in curtailing crimes.

He further charged them to extend the same hand of fellowship to his successor and sustained the peaceful tempo in the Zone.

AIG expressed gratitude to God Almighty, IGP Usman Baba Alkali and all who made his service worthwhile.

He charged policemen to be civil to members of the public, and humbly obey lawful orders.

Further, the officers and men of the Zonal Command seized the opportunity to celebrate AIG Okunlola Kola Kamaldeen on his successful attainment of the mandatory 60 years of age on 2nd of February, 2023.

They pledged to uphold the legacies he bequeathed to them especially that of loyalty to the Force and ensuring that the Zone is peaceful and crime free.
