It is one year since Nigeria lost one of her most distinguished leaders, former President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR. As we commemorate this solemn anniversary, I join millions of Nigerians in honouring a statesman whose life was devoted to the service of our nation.

Although late President Buhari’s passing left a profound void in our national life, his legacy of patriotism, discipline, integrity and unwavering commitment to Nigeria continues to inspire many of us who had the privilege of working closely with him.

I remain deeply grateful for the confidence and support he gave me during my tenure as Governor of Plateau State and Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum. Those years afforded me the opportunity to witness his leadership at close range.

He was a man of conviction who placed the interests of Nigeria above personal comfort, approached governance with sincerity of purpose, and remained steadfast in his belief that our nation could overcome its challenges through unity, hard work and accountability.

As Governor of Plateau State and Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, I worked closely with President Buhari on issues of peace, security, economic development and national cohesion. He was always willing to listen, engage constructively and support initiatives that promoted the welfare of Nigerians. His calm disposition, humility and respect for institutions earned him admiration both within and beyond our country’s borders.

One year after his departure, history continues to reflect on his contributions to national development, the fight against insecurity, infrastructure renewal, anti-corruption reforms and social investment programmes. While every administration faces challenges, President Buhari remained resolute in pursuing what he believed was in the best interest of Nigeria.

As we remember him today, I encourage Nigerians to draw inspiration from his personal discipline, modest lifestyle and enduring commitment to public service.

The greatest tribute we can pay to his memory is to continue working together to build the peaceful, united and prosperous Nigeria he so passionately desired. Today, his friend and political partner President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR is continuing with nation building through the Renewed Hope Agenda which equally demands our support and cooperation.

On behalf of my family and the good people of Plateau South Senatorial District, I remember with honour and gratitude a leader, mentor and friend whose service to our nation will never be forgotten.
May Almighty Allah continue to forgive his shortcomings, comfort his family, grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus, and continue to comfort his family and all Nigerians who mourn his passing.
