Sad as Kebbi records 25 new polio cases in 9 LGs

The Kebbi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, has called on the media to intensify sensitization to caregivers so as to eradicate polio out of the state as it recorded 25 suspected new case of polio virus in nine local government areas of the state.
The State Health Educator of the Agency, Yusuf Umar Sauwa, made the appeal at a meeting of the Social Mobilization Committee in Birnin Kebbi.
He said the media had a major role to play in sensitizing and mobilizing communities at the grassroots level as the agency geared up for its forthcoming campaign expected to commence early next month.
According to him, the agency is targeting under 5 years children to boost and improve their Immunity and also tackle the menace of zero dose immunization in order to put an end in the trasmition of the variant polio virus in the society.
He pointed out that, the prevalence of the varient polio virus amongst the communities was a challenge to the state and as a result the agency was trying to see how best to stop the transmision, look into other mecanisms and modalities that would Improve the immunity status of the children.
“At the same time we are looking how best we can implement Social Mobilization activities in order to create more awerenes using Advocacy, Community Social Mobilization, the Media and other strategies so that the communty will now engage and fully participate in the programme”, Sauwa said.
He said while the state was doing all it could to stop the transmission of the virus to other neighbouring local government areas, states and countries bordering Kebbi State, most mothers often never allowed their children to be vaccinated due to ignorance and traditions which the agency now would fight to finish.
