The Anambra State Police Command has strengthened its campaign against cultism and other social vices by unveiling plans for a series of statewide youth engagement programmes aimed at promoting peace, responsible citizenship, and crime prevention.
The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.
The initiative, being implemented through the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), also targets issues such as violent crime, substance abuse, cybercrime, and other activities considered harmful to young people and communities.
The renewed campaign was highlighted during an interactive radio programme held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, which brought together traditional rulers, youth leaders, community representatives, and members of the public to discuss practical ways of tackling social vices across the state.
Participants emphasized the need for collective responsibility in addressing cultism, drug abuse, and cybercrime. They stressed that parents, schools, community leaders, religious institutions, and government agencies must work together to guide young people towards positive values and lawful conduct.
During the programme, stakeholders also exchanged ideas on strengthening community partnerships, expanding mentorship opportunities, and encouraging youths to embrace productive and responsible lifestyles.
The Police Command disclosed that preparations have been concluded for the rollout of extensive youth-focused activities under the POCACOV initiative. The programmes are designed to increase public awareness, discourage criminal behaviour among young people, and promote peace and discipline throughout Anambra State.
According to the Command, the National Coordinator of POCACOV from the Force Headquarters in Abuja is expected to visit Anambra before the end of July 2026 to officially inaugurate the statewide campaign.
The visit will mark the commencement of several outreach programmes, including activities during the August long school vacation, advocacy sessions for students, engagements with women during their annual August meetings, and other community-based initiatives aimed at preventing crime and promoting positive social values.
The Police Command appealed to parents, teachers, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth organisations, and other stakeholders to support the campaign by mentoring young people, discouraging involvement in cultism and other criminal activities, and promoting peaceful coexistence in their communities.
