The Oodua Progressive Women in Politics, Cross River State, have declared support for the re-election of Governor Bassey Otu and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

The group said its decision was based on what it described as the achievements of the two administrations, including the appointment of members of the Yoruba community and other ethnic groups into government positions.

The group’s Chairman, Ambassador Adejoke Oyeleye, stated this when members paid a courtesy visit to the qChairman of the Cross River State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Imam Kabir Olowolayemo, in Calabar.

Oyeleye said the re-election of Otu and Tinubu would enable both administrations to consolidate the gains recorded during their first terms.

She also announced plans to organise a Unity Walk for sons and daughters of Oodua across the 18 local government areas of the state.

According to her, the organisation will also hold the first “Oodua Day Celebration” in Calabar, bringing together Oodua indigenes, non-indigenous communities and government officials.

Responding, Olowolayemo described the group as one of the prominent socio-political organisations backing the re-election of Otu and Tinubu.

He said the present administration had provided opportunities for members of the Yoruba community and other ethnic groups to participate in governance through appointments.

Olowolayemo also cited improved security, infrastructure and human welfare as areas where he said the administrations had recorded progress.

He expressed optimism that the group’s declaration of support would translate into votes during the 2027 elections.

“Optimistic that the solidarity we are declaring today will be translated with our voter cards come 2027,” he said.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Non-Indigenous Affairs, Mazi Okey Maduakwe, described the Oodua Progressive Women as grassroots supporters of the governor who had remained consistent in their support for his administration.
